Kings Of Concrete – Dublin City

To sum up this post briefly enough, Kings Of Concrete is an outdoor, urban sports event organized by people who partake in several of this disciplines, including skateboarding, roller blading, bmx, parkour, breakdancing and other activities such as professional graffiti artistry, freestyle football, beatboxing and even rap battles amongst everything else I’m forgetting! Entertainment overload!!
It was only through open communication on an Irish forum that led me to contact the organizers and request press access to photograph the event from behind the public barrier.
This was my first(well perhaps second) foray in an event of this kind but I felt a bit more prepared this time. I had received critique on my previous efforts at urban sports of this kind and I hope that the advice I was given has shown itself in this next set.
As an overview of how I think it went in terms of my ability, well I think I’m getting better at both lighting and composition. Minor improvements but I felt much more in control and like I had wasted less time when something just wasn’t working for me. There is always going to be much room for improvement but I do feel as though I’m on the right track.

I have more to follow from this event but I have to catch up on some other work in the meantime, and I’m picking my last shot carefully as I may enter it into the photographers competition to be in with a chance to win a Nikon d7000. If anyone actually reads this then maybe you can give me some feedback and tell me which one you like best?

All in all I had an epic time and met some great people along the way. I picked up a few cards, numbers and email addresses to keep in contact and maybe organize some work further down the line!

Thanks for reading!

Hi really good work! I think the second one is the best- the lighting is great and and you placed the guy perfect in the shot as he is the main focus and the audience looks interested in what he is doing! Well thats my two cents anyway ha!

  4. Then it’s decided. I’m entering skateboard guy as my second entry 🙂
If anyone know’s that kids name it would be great I’d love to send him on the image!
Thanks for the feedback! 🙂 Fingers crossed!
